To construct her new reality-TV series, alterna-pop queen and gay-rights activist Cyndi Lauper has been committing her hectic schedule to celluloid. It isn’t easy: One day, she’ll be in Washington, D.C., lobbying on behalf of her LGBT-oriented True Colors Fund; the next, she’ll be at the Kentucky Derby in a flying-saucer-size bonnet (“I actually wanted that hat to be bigger!” she says). Saturday, the former “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant appears at San Francisco Symphony’s Black & White Ball in a lineup also featuring Paul Simon. In the words of her classic 1983 debut “She’s so Unusual.” Now she’ll have footage to prove it.
Is the reality-TV show you’re taping still a Mark Burnett production? What’s it called? Yes, it is. We’re still tossing different ideas around about what to call it. It’s like naming a CD — not easy. It will premiere on the WeTV network in the fall. So far it’s been a lot of fun. My family is involved, as is my business family, so it’s pretty much nonstop for me. You just lobbied in Washington, D.C., for True Colors, regarding LGBT homelessness. Did you make any inroads? We had some great meetings with members of Congress, like leader [Nancy] Pelosi and Sen. [John] Kerry. This visit was just the beginning of the True Colors Fund’s effort to get increased federal funding for runaway and homeless youth, as well as to get the Reconnecting Youth to Prevent Homelessness Act passed.
You just appeared in three new things — the TV shows “Bob’s Burgers” and “Bones,” and the new animated film “Henry & Me.” How do you score all these roles? I love acting. I’m not great at it, but I’ve always put myself out there for the opportunity. “Bob’s Burgers” is really funny and my kid is a huge fan, so they even gave him a role. We got to do it together, which was awesome.
You’re on Jon Secada’s new “Still I Rise” single, plus you have a new live CD-DVD out. What’s next, musically? I’ve just finished writing the music for a Broadway show called “Kinky Boots” — Harvey Fierstein wrote the book. After three years, it’s exciting to see it coming to fruition. Once the show opens on Broadway, I’ll start thinking about my next CD.
What’s your take on President Barack Obama finally supporting gay marriage? I have never been prouder of him, and I was already a big fan. The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” — he’s been the best president so far for the gay community. IF YOU GO

Weeping Elvis interviewed Rich Morel who co-wrote and co-produced some songs on Bring Ya To The Brink. Here is what he had to say about his collaboration with Cyndi Lauper for the Kinky Boots musical.
Weeping Elvis: It seems like you always have a lot of projects in motion. Anything else you are working on?
Rich Morel: One of the things I’m doing now is my work with Cyndi Lauper. I wrote a bunch of songs with her for a new musical called Kinky Boots. Cyndi is releasing one of the ones we wrote together this summer as a single. It’s called “The Sex Is in the Heel.” I think the musical opens in Chicago this November before it goes to New York. It’s a great song and I’m psyched about it.
WE: It sounds like you love working with her.
RM: When you work with someone like Cyndi there’s two things. One is her voice, when you work with someone that’s that caliber of a singer it’s a whole different world. She’s such a presence vocally it’s a joy to work with her. She’s also really funny. It’s win win.
WE: It must be great to work with someone who has such a powerful voice.
RM: It’s funny you’re listening to the monitors and she’s standing right there and it just comes out so right on. She has a lot of control over her voice. I work with a lot of rock musicians, like Brendan, and the stuff I do, which can be equally powerful, but it’s just a different thing. Cyndi’s voice is so iconic though. It’s great. I feel lucky to have hooked up with her in that capacity.

On the 9th May 2012, SAMHSA hosted the annual National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day event spotlighting youth who have overcome trauma and their "Heroes of Hope." The event, held at the Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC, featured Honorary Chairperson Cyndi Lauper, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and other dignitaries. The event was emceed by Emmy award-winning news anchor Leon Harris from ABC 7/WJLA-TV.

Cyndi Lauper is in Washington, D.C. USA on the 9th May 2012 to draw awareness to the plight of gay and transgendered homeless youth. WE tv were there to filming the events which took place whilst Cyndi was there. The US President gave his support for Same-Sex Marriage and this was Cyndi Lauper's reaction:
I look forward to him evolving,” said Lauper, who supports gay marriage. “I think he’s doing great, and I think he was given such a mess that even at the time of the election, nobody had any idea how deep that mess really was. So I am all for him and I am all for him evolving. And I love him. He’s inspiring to me. Very inspiring.”

Cyndi Lauper also accepted an award from Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at the Heroes Of Hope event in Washington for her work on ending homelessness through her True Colors Fund, which advocates equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
"Young people unfortunately experience trauma every day, but they are resilient and can recover if we provide them the support that they need," said Lauper. "In particular, homeless gay and transgender youth face unique challenges, like family rejection, and they inspire me with their honesty and bravery to do all that I can to help them overcome those adversities and succeed in life."
Cyndi Lauper closed the event by performing True Colors with the Youth Performers.
Cyndi Lauper will spend Thursday 10th May 2012 meeting with lawmakers to push for funding to help homeless youth.

As a supporter of the president and a longtime advocate for young gay and lesbian Americans, I am thrilled about today’s news and I’m looking forward to my visit to Capitol Hill, where I will tomorrow appeal to members of Congress to fund programs supporting our homeless LGBT youth.
YME Entertainment have announced the first single from Jon Secada's soon to be released album I'm Never Too Far Away will be his duet with Cyndi Lauper Still I Rise..
We first learnt about the collaboration in January this year when both Jon and Cyndi went into the recording studio at Area 51 NYE Studios in Manhattan. Still I Rise was first performed at Cyndi Lauper's Home For The Holidays benefit concert on the 4th December 2011.
The release date is to be confirmed and it is not known at this stage if Still I Rise will be available worldwide.

Cyndi Lauper was Grand Marshal of the Republic Bank Pegasus Parade at the Kentucky Derby Festival 2012 on the 3rd May 2012 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Before the parade began Cyndi Lauper gave a mini performance to crowds attending. She sang True Colors accompanied by Steve Gaboury on piano plus She Bop and Girls Just Want To Have Fun.
Cyndi lauper was joined at the parade by her family, David Thornton and Declyn Lauper Thornton. WETV were there filming the days activities for Cyndi Lauper's upcoming reality programme Cyndi which is set to premiere in the US in the summer.
Beverly McClellan, who represented Christina Aguilera last season, took to The Voice stage with Cyndi Lauper for a performance of Cyndi Lauper's Money Changes Everything, which was a hit back in the 1980s. The bald and well tatted Bev and Lauper gave us a high octane rocked out performance.
